Born in South Africa, my husband Colin and I immigrated in 1989. Colin is Division Director, Ophthalmology at Childrens’ Hospital of San Diego. I am Senior Advisor of External Relations at the National Conflict Resolution Center. We are the parents of three wonderful children, Nicole (32), Mark (30), and Gabrielle (24) and one grandson Noah (1 year). I graduated as a Wexner Fellow in June 1996. My participation in the Jewish world has been extensive and joyful with many connections and leadership opportunities working with local, national and global Jewish Communities. In February 2002, I founded the non-profit web site, www.shopinisrael.com in an attempt to support Israeli merchants and the economy. Currently the website lists over 800 businesses and has brought over 1 million shoppers directly to merchants in Israel. I am Chair Elect of the Board of the Jewish Community Foundation and the Founding Chair of the Endowment Leadership Institute (ELI), an innovative program, training professional and lay teams of community organizations in endowment and bequest building. Since April 2004 we have over 850 endowments, an estimated $220 million. ELI has being piloted in 5 communities, partly funded by Arevim. This year, Harold Grinspoon is beginning to fund a multi-year effort to bring ELI to over 50 communities. I am also Founding Chair of GLI, the Governance Leadership Institute, a newer program involving over 25 organizations focused on strengthening governance in the San Diego Jewish Community. I thank the Wexner Heritage Foundation and Lesley and Abigail Wexner for their thoughtful, inspired and strategic leadership, vision, education, gracious hospitality and generosity.
