Solo Practitioners

This group is for Wexner alumni whose primary work is independent of an agency, organization, school, etc. If you are new to working independently or have been doing it for years, you’re welcome here. If you’re considering a transition to solo work, this group is also for you. Some issues unique to solo practitioners include (but are definitely not limited to):

    • I’ve never run a business before! Can I really do it?
      • What do I need to know to get my business started?
      • What’s involved in monitoring revenue and expenses?
      • How should I market myself
    • How do I develop work relationships without an actual workplace?
    • How do I create and maintain healthy work-life boundaries?
    • I’m consulting for [___] and don’t want to reinvent the wheel. Where do I turn for resources? Best practices? Pitfalls to beware of?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How often does this group meet?

Our group will meet for 60 minutes once per month. (However, this is negotiable to meet the group’s needs, and we can collectively decide on our meeting cadence.)

Do I need to sign up, or can I drop in to meetings?

For everyone to benefit from the group’s wisdom and support, I strongly encourage a commitment to regular attendance. That said, we’re busy people and life happens, so an occasional absence is not a deal-breaker.

Is there a size limit for the group?

The ideal size is no more than six participants, but don’t let that limit stop you from signing up. We’ll see where we are and adjust accordingly.

How confidential is attending and discussions?

What’s shared in the group stays in the group. This is a safe space for open and candid communication.

When is the first meeting?

The poll to let me know areas of focus will also include preferred meeting dates/times. The goal is to begin meeting by the end of June.

What questions are new members asked, or what are the particular topics/areas of focus that will be covered in our sessions?

This group’s agenda is to support its members, so I’ll circulate a poll where you can let me know particular topics/areas of focus you’d like us to address.
